Asthma affects around 5.4 million people in the UK, with symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, feeling breathless and a tight chest. Lung disease has also been highlighted as the UK’s third most common death, costing the NHS more than £9 billion every year. The Charity have introduced a 5-year plan, in which by 2027 they aim to reduce the deaths and ill health caused by lung conditions by 20%. This is through: Fighting for clean air and campaign against smoking; diagnose lung disease earlier and more accurately; enable everyone to live well with a lung condition and drive life changing research and innovation. https://www.asthma.org.uk/
Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic condition that affects more than 10,600 people in the UK, with four people diagnosed every week. It is an inherited disorder that causes damage to the lungs, digestive system, and other organs. It causes the body to produce thick mucus. Symptoms include Persistent coughs, wheezing, exercise intolerance, repeated lung infections, inflamed nasal passages, recurrent sinusitis. Cystic Fibrosis trust have launched several life changing projects, such as: A ground-breaking clinical trials accelerator platform; more innovative research programmes; better information and support to those with Cystic Fibrosis to help them make the right choices and high impact campaigns for change, for example fair access to medicines.
We will also be taking part in a range of activities during Cystic Fibrosis week (13th – 19th June) and will be wearing our brightest colours on 17th June for ‘Wear Yellow Day’ with a donation to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. Is there ever too much yellow? https://www.cysticfibrosis.org.uk/
